IYASA and their counterparts
in Austria, Theatro Piccolo, came together last weekend to perform as a
band that they chose to name No Chickens in the bus. This is just one in
many projects the two arts groups embarked on from last year. No
Chickens in the bus is a band performance that shows how versatile and
flexible IYASA is. Many have come to limitedly describe IYASA as a dance
group but director Nkululeko Dube has always insisted that we are more
than that. “We are into dance, into theatre and live band performances,”
he said. The show held at the Kullisse in Wien was sold out and left
many a reveller asking for more. Future Sibanda also left the dominantly
Austrian audience in stitches with his stand up comedy acts. Not to be
outdone were the bands lead singers Nomathamsanqa Mkwananzi and
Silethemba Magonya who proved beyond doubt that IYASA boasts of talent
par-exellence. Austrian audiences are used to shows without much dance
and the flavour brought in by the dances and choreography in the show
was impressive to say the least.
